ATTEMPT TO DEFRAUD UNION COMPANY SAILED WITHOUT TICKET Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. On a charge of travelling on the Komata from Westport to Wellington without first paying his fare, Charles Bradman, a miner, aged 41, was today fined £2, in default seven days’ gaol. The police said he came from Australia. in November and had been in West port looking for work which had been promised him, but as this was some time ahead he decided to come to Wellington. He bought a ticket and lived on the boat for three or four days while it was bar-bound. On the third day he cashed his ticket at the Union Company’s office, but when the boat was to sail next day be went aboard and it was not discovered that he did not have a ticket until the ship was at sea. He had 11s on him then.
