FLOODS RECEDING
DESOLATION COVERS WIDE AREA IN AUSTRALIA MANY CROPS RUINED Reed. 10.25 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. Floods in the Newcastle district are receding slowly. Some streets in Maitland are now clear, but a large area is still under water. Many people have returned to their mud-covered . homes. Stanhope is a scene of desolation. All crops have been ruined, and many cattle, pigs, and fowls were drowned. INVITED TO INDIA Reed. 11.5 a.m. DELHI, Monday. It is reported here that invitations have been issued to the following English cricketers to visit India: —B. Lyon, M. Lyon, Wyatt, Allom, Enthoven, G. Stevens, Legge, H. Franklin. J. Stephenson, PL Dawson. N. Haig, George Gunn, Hallows, Worthington, Sam Staples.
