UNUSUAL EXPERIENCE
Here is a letter from a Christchurch motorist: —“On a recent cold morning I got my car out of the garage and drove it about a quarter of a mile over a bumpy road. My wife then immediately took charge of the car and was just driving off to town when I saw what I thought was a stick lyingon the brake drum of the back-wheel. I bent down to pick it off, but was considerably surprised to see it was the tail of a huge live rat sitting on the brake drum and looking very frightened. I said nothing to my wife because I knew it would upset her. She drove off and I carefully watched the car. After the car had gone about 100 yards the rat jumped off. I chased it and it raced up a tree like a cat. A handy lump of wood in my hands finished the career of this adventurous rodent. Apparently the warmth of the car had attracted him. It was a weird experience both for him and myself.”
