NEW REGENT

“THE VAGABOND KING” The story of Francois Villon, “the Vagabond King,” has long been known as a colourful episode in French hisFirst, it was the novel, “If I Were King,” by Justin Huntly McCarthy. Then the novel became an operetta, “The Vagabond King.” Then the operetta was made into one of the audible screen’s first and most pretentious films under the same title —“The Vagabond King.” Dennis King created the great singing role of Francois Villon, the rowdy poet of medieval France who became a king for a week. That was in the operetta. Now he is giving the same portrayal, on a much more magnificent scale, in the picture, which is thrilling the crowded audiences at the New Regent Theatre.

Jeanette MacDonald, Broadway musical comedy prima donna who made her debut in Maurice Chevalier's all-talking and singing romance.

“The Love Parade,” is seen and heard in her second musical romance ..production of the audible screen, in “The Vagabond King,” opposite Dennis King.

At the Regent Theatre a special supporting programme of talkies is also being shown.
