COMMISSIONS IN R.A.F.

ADVICE TO N.Z. CANDIDATES ADMISSION DIFFICULTIES Press Association WELLINGTON, Friday. A communication has been received from the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, Sir Thomas Wilford, by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, dealing with the i chances of gaining positions in the i Royal Air Force. The High Commissioner says that he is often approached by young men who have worked or paid their passage to England in the belief that they will secure positions in the Royal Air Force, and who, having failed to gain admission to the force, and possessing no return ticket, find themselves stranded. The High Commissioner asks that attention be drawn to the rashness of men going with this object without having sufficient resources. Owing to increased competition for short service commissions in the Royal ! xYir Force, stated Mr. Cobbe, New Zealand candidates are strongly advised not to travel to England unless they have sufficient runds both to maintain themselves In England for some months while awaiting entry, and to return to New Zealand in the event of failure to gain admission to the Royal Air Force. No applications will bo entertained by the selection board of the Air Ministry unless the candidate has been recommended for entry by the Director of Air Services, Wellington, to whom applications must be made in the first instance.
