DEATH IN GAOL

ARRESTED MAN SUCCUMBS The death occurred yesterday at Mount Eden gaol of Charles Wilkie, aged 50, wno was arrested on a charge of helpless drunkenness, at 7.30 yesterday morning. He died at about noon. Dr. C. H. Tewsley attended to him after the arrest, and Wilkie was later removed to the gaol. His condition did not permit of his appearance in the Police Court when the charge against him was read. On the application of Sub-Inspector Shanahan, h* was then remanded for a week for medical treatment. An inquest is to be opened this afternoon or tomorrow before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., coroner.
