RAILWAYS COMMISSION

PRELIMINARY MEETING HELD Press Association WELLINGTON, Thursday. The first meeting of the Royal Commission appointed to investigate Railway Department activities and advise where economies can be made, was held in Parliament Buildings today. Preliminary matters only were touched upon. The members first met the Prime Minister, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, in his room for discussion. A wide field has to be covered by the commission, which has had 19 points submitted to it in the order of reference. Regular meetings will be held from now on, and the report is to be ready for presentation not later than September 1. Completion by that date will no doubt make it possible for the document to L»e discussed in the coming session uf Parliament.
