SUPER-PATRIOTS

OBJECTION TO GERMAN PLACE NAMES WELLINGTON R.S.A. "Wellington carries its patriotism to extremes. This was disclosed at a meeting of the executive of the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association last evening when remits were being considered for the forthcoming Dominion conference. A remit from the Wellington R.S.A. urged that the attention of the Government and the National Geographic Board be called to the continued use of such names as “.Mount Moltke,” •’Mount Boon,” “Mount Bismarck,” the “Kaiser Fritz Range” and “Chancellor Ridge” (meaning the German Chancellor) in the nomenclature of prominent points on the western side of the Southern Alps. It was desirable that such names be removed atid British and New Zealand names be substituted, preference being given to the early explorers and settlers. “\Ve cannot do anything with this,” said Sir George Richardson. ! It was decided not to support the remit.
