UNDESIRABLE VISITOR
TO BE SHIPPED FROM DOMINION STAYED HERE TOO LONG Apart from the fact that he stayed in New Zealand 16 months longer than the terms of his temporary immigration permit allowed, there were other reasons why the Customs Department wanted Peter Druzianich deported, Mr. J. Mclntosh, Collector of Customs, told Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.. at the Police Court this morning. Druzianich, a Dalmatian labourer, aged 21, was fined £5, in default one month’s imprisonment, and a deportation order was made. Mr. Mclntosh said accused had arrived in Wellington by the Ulimaroa on August 21, 1928. His temporary immigration permit for six months had been exceeded by 16 months. In January last accused’s brother, who was a contractor at Gisborne, went to Wellington to see about the man’s passport, and it was then promised that no action would be taken against Druzianich for a few weeks so that he would have an opportunity to leave the country. Accused had carefully kept out of the way. He had been up in the gum fields and in the vicinity of Dargaville. During the time he had been in the Dominion, Druzianich had been convicted on two charges of false pretences. There were also convictions for a breach of probation and riding on a railway train without tendering his fare. t
