STRAND

"HEARTS IN EXILE” i A particularly fine film entitled “Hearts in Exile” is the attraction at the Strand Theatre from today, with Dolores Costello as the star. Although she has played many and varied roles, that of Vera Ivanova, the peasant girl in “Hearts in Exile,” is a departure even for Miss Costello. In her character of Vera, the star forms the apex of a love triangle, the other points of which are occupied by a peasant youth and a member of the Russian nobility. There are some stirring scenes in the Siberian prison camps, giving Miss ' Costello’s dramatic ability full sway. She is a vision of loveliness in the colourful Russian peasant costumes, and as a Russian bride clad in white satin and lace, with the typical head-dress. Costello fans will adore their favourite in this exciting drama of love and intrigue. “Hearts in Exile” was adapted to the screen by Harvey Gates, from the original stage play by John Oxenham. Michael Curtiz, who directed the picture, is convinced that it is one of the finest stories he has ever worked on. Other members of the cast are Grant Withers, who plays the leading male role with great charm; James Kirkwood, splendid as a Russian nobleman; George Faw*cett, David Torrance, Olive Tell, William Irving, and Tom Dugan. A programme of short talkies will also be presented this evening.
