CIVIC
“TEMPLE TOWER” COMING The current programme at the Civic Theatre will have its final presentation there this evening l . This includes “High Society,” the charming romantic story starring Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell, the musical selections by Ted Henkel’s Orchestra, and Fred Scholl at the organ, and the fine supporting items. Something new in talkie entertainment will be presented to Auckland theatregoers at the Civic Theatre tomorrow with the opening of the alltalking movietone melodrama, “Temple Tower,” with Kenneth Mac Kenna featured as “Bulldog Drummond.” This production, intrinsically a spine-chilling melodrama, is also something entirely different—something that may best be described as sophisticated, but which is so treated as to enhance the thrills of the story as well as to afford lighter moments. The story, a close adaptation of the novel of the same name by H. C. Mels 1 eile, which deals with the further adventures of that redoubtable young man, “Bulldog Drummond,” uses the theft of a priceless collection of emeralds as its theme. These jewels, stolen by a gang of apaches under the direction of Le Bossu Masque, “The Masked Strangler,” are subsequently taken by Blackton, one of the gang, who doublecrosses the others. The dauntless advanturer is intrigued by the elaborate preparations which Backton uses to shield himself from visitors, and when a very personable young lady appears, who also wants to get inside the grim walls of the tower, Drummond decides to take a hand. Another splendid supporting programmeof pictures and music will also be presented.
