MONEY TURNED AWAY
RUGBY UNION RETURNS ABOUT £3OO ENTHUSIASM IN COUNTRY Pity the officials of the Auckland Rugby Union. FoT several weeks money has been rolling into the office by each mail, and more than £3OO has been returned whence it came. It is not that the union sneers at money and fixes its mind on a more aesthetic plane. Nor is it that the union’s coffers are running over so that there is no necessity for money. All the money sent in has come from Rugby enthusiasts desirous of booking in early for seats at the third test match against Britain to be played at Eden Park, on July 26. The management committee of the union decided that all booking, for both the Auckland game and the test, should be conducted through Watts’s Sports Depot. Exchange Lane, the booking for the test opening on July 14. Iu adherence to its own decision the union has had to return cheques, postal notes and money-orders that have come flooding in each day. A covering note explaining the booking arrangements has been enclosed with the returned subscription in each case. Most of the requests for seats have come from the country, Rugby followers hoping to motor in comfortably on the day of the match. Money has been received from as far afield as Rotorua, the Bay of Plenty and North Auckland — £3OO, turned away.
