Decision was deferred in the hope that tho Orphans’ Club might help, but members present offered to billet the boys of the concert party. Mrs. Ashmore asked if it was possible to have the drinking fountain restored in front of the post office, as it was a great convenience to child - ; fen. A deputation was appointed to | wait on the Borough Council. | The musical programme given during the afternoon was very much en- | joyed. Mr. C. Ct. I-lIKURANGI BRANCH CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY To celebrate the first year of its existence, the Hikurangi Women's Institute held a birthday gathering last week. Mrs. Dale, president, welcomed ■ the guests, and in outlining the pro- | gress of the institute stated that from : a membership of 14 it had increased j to 6G during the past year. After a j brief appreciative speech by the Rev. ; M. Drake, dancing, competitions, musij cal and elocutionary items passed the | time most pleasantly. Assisting with i the programme were Mrs. Cossill, Mrs. j Jveating, and Mr. Barry, Mho sang; | Mrs. Foote, who recited, and Miss j Baxter, who gave an exhibition of | Scottish dancing. IMPRESSIONS OF EUROPE TALK BY MISS A. WALKER The monthly meeting of the Auckland Women's Political Association was held last evening at the Y.W.C.A.. Mrs. Mason presiding in the absence of Miss Melville. A most interesting travel talk on her impressions of Europe was given bv Miss A. Walker, and was much enjoyed by the members.
