UNEMPLOYED IN NORTH
ACUTE STAGE REACHED From Our Oxen Correspondent WHANGAREI, Today. The unemployment problem in Whangarei has now reached an acute position. The Borough Council is unable to engage more men and a last desperate effort is to be made by applying for Government assistance. The Mayor said at the council meeting last evening that good, honest, sober men were walking the streets. There were only two works at present in Whangarei suitable for absorbing unemployed, the extension of Lower Cameron Street estimated to cost £9,25(1 and widening Otaika Road and providing a footpath on one side. The latter was favoured as being mostly construction work. MANY SEEK WORK SERIOUS POSITION IN HAMILTON From Our Oxen Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. The unemployment position in Hamilton is again serious. Another big crowd, including many strapping young men, appeared outside the borough offices this morning seeking temporary places. Of the 120 on the waiting list, work can be found for only 70.
