ONEHUNGA BOROUGH

GRANT FOR ROAD PAVING To ask for a contribution toward the cost of tar-sealing Hillsborough Road from Mount Albert Road to the cemetery, a deputation from the Mount Roskill Road Board, consisting of the chairman, Mr. E. F. Jones, and Mr. R. W. Sanft, waited on the Onehunga Borough Council last evening. The deputation pointed out that, as the greater part of the traffic was caused by funerals, the council should, in fairness, assist the board in maintaining this road. After discussing the position in committee, the council adopted a I recommendation to make a grant of £IOO this year together with a recommendation to the next council to make an additional grant of £l5O next year. The medical officer of health reported that the periodical bacteriological analysis of the borough water supply had proved satisfactory. The district engineer of the Public Works Department notified that he was unable to recommend a subsidy on the sum of £SO subscribed by the Returned Soldiers’ Association and the council for improvements in Jellicoe Park. Pie held that such work was purely maintenance. In order to assist the Power Board during the Arapuni suspension, the council has instructed its pumping engineer to curtail pumping operations between the hours of 4 p.m and 7 p.m. daily. The annual grant of £ 5 5s was made toward the funds of the "Workers’ Educational Association.
