AVONDALE CLUB
REVIEW OF THE SEASON The annual report of the Avondale Jockey Club, to be presented at the general meeting of members on Tuesday, July 1, states: In submitting the statement of accounts' for the financial year which ended on May 30, 1930, the committee has much pleasure in congratulating members on the successful year experienced. At both the spring and autumn meetings the weather was favourable, and the racing decidedly interesting, while the financial result was up to expectations. A reference to the balance sheet will show that the finances of the club are .satisfactory, the assets exceeding the liabilities. As a result of the season’s workings, tho sum of £2,165 has been written off for depreciation, leaving £446 to be carried forward*to the capita* account. During the four days’ racing, £10,470 was given away in stakes, this being well over the amount required by the Rules of Racing. The course and tracks are in first-class order, and are greatly appreciated by owners and trainers, and are a valuable asset to the club. The club’s membership is still good, but during the year we lost through death two of the number, Messrs. J. H. Martin and IT. B. Philcox. The committee feels sure that members will join with it in extending to the relatives heartfelt sympathy. Messrs. Donald McLeod and A. Davis are the only nominees for the positions of president and vice-president respectively, and Messrs. J. Archibald, P. J. Delany. W. Fallon, G. McCarthy and J. E. Wells (retiring members) for the vacancies on the committee, and as the number nominated does not exceed that required they will be declared elected.
Items in the club’s receipts for the year are as follow:—Totalisator, £23,311; nominations and acceptances, £2,531; gates, racecards. privileges, etc., £4,302; rents, grazing, track fees, fines and. sundries, £220; members’ subscriptions, £468. ing new course, is written down from £13.923 to £12.500. The club has £4,000 invested in Government debentures. On the liabilities side capital account is shown at £28,515, and there is a mortgage for £15,000.
