MAUI POMARE’S ENGINES
DEFECTS WORSE THAN WAS ANTICIPATED “REPAIRS FALSE ECONOMY” from Our Resident Reporter WELLINGTON, Today. The trouble In the Government motor-ship Maui Pomare is said to bo more serious than was at first suspected. After an advisory committee had inspected the vessel last week, it recommended that certain alterations should be made to the hull, and it was thought probable that the engines would have to be lifted out for repairs. Further inspection of the machinery, however, as shown that the cost of the necessary repairs would be so great as to make repairs a false economy, many parts requiring to be completely renewed.
