OPPOSITION IN GISBORNE From Our Own. Correspondent GISBORNE, Today. Gisborne maize growers axe strenuously opposing the efforts to have the import duty on maize removed, and yesterday growers put their case before the local executive of the Farmers’ Union. “The attempt comes from the Auckland merchants,” said Mr. A. Lister. “One thing the Waikato farmers do not realise is that by the time the imported maize reaches them they will not get it very mucli cheaper.
