COLLEGE CONTROL PROBLEM DISCUSSED SECONDARY COURSE PLAN Press Associat ion WELLINGTON, Friday. ’ A recommendation that training col- ! leges should be placed under the ditect - control of the Education Department i led to considerable discussion at the . Council of Hducation meeting today. The recommendations read as follow: —That training colleges be placed ■ under the direct control of the Fduca- ; lion Department with the assistance of an advisory council consisting of a representative of the Education Department, the principal of the college, a representative of the local education board, one representative each of secondary and primary school teachers, and the professor of education of the University College in the district. The proposal was finally left in the j hands of the Recess Committee of the council to report at the next meeting. Other recommendations on the samesubject were adopted as follow That an addition be made to each of the four existing training colleges of a properly recognised and organised secondary training department. That in order that a certificate of secondary teaching may be obtained, a student must have (a) a University degree in subjects approved by the principal; (b) a satisfactory course of general training; (c) a satisfactory specialised course in principles and practice of teaching as applied to secondary schools; (d) a final year as probationary assistant in a post-primary school. _
