FOOTBALL MATCH
TACKLING CHESS TAXIS The trotting fraternity is always to the fore when assistance is required for any deserving cause, and last season both the Auckland and Canterbury Clubs raised fine sums for the benefit of the West Coast earthquake sufferers. This year the Forbury Park Club promoted a special fixture to raise funds for the benefit of the large army of unemployed, and the effort was marked with success. The Auckland trainers, with the aid of their assistants, are moving in a smaller way to help the unemployment fund, and a football match has been arranged between the trotting enthusiasts and representatives of the Chess Taxi service. The game Mill be played at Carlaw Park on Wednesday next at 2.30, and followers of the League code will have an opportunity of seeing some promising material in action. The “Taxis” may have it on the “trotters” for speed, but the latter are a solid lot, and will not be so apt to change the gear, while their gait will also be a true one. Both teams are in training and intend putting up a game worthy of the occasion, and one that should prove attractive from its recreative point of view as well as being for a deserving cause. Trotting Team The light-liarness brigade is a solid one, and the combination should be sound. The rearguard is composed of some rare speed merchants in Warplane (C. Fairman), JeAveJ Pointer (S. August), Logan’s Pride (D. Watts), Torpedo Huon (A. Ellis), Belle Axworthy (A. Julian), Dan Direct (A. Henderson), Uncle Bert (W. Ker), while stamina and pace is combined among the forwards as follows: —Gold Jacket (L. McMahon), Mountain Dell (A. Mitchell), Gold Treasure (J. Cockle), Rose Bingen (A. Conway), Evelyn Locanda (W. Nightingale), Peter Pirate (E. Paul), and Lady Author (J. Flanagan).
