NOT AS BAD AS PAINTED
rpHE question of Arachne’s * “barrieritis” has, it appears, not yet been definitely settled, and the mare’s owner, Mrs. Sweetapple, has to show„ cause to the Auckland Club’s committee next Saturday, at the request of the association, why Arachne _ should not be placed on the schooling list. No one will question the usefulness of a schooling list for horses that continually cause trouble at the start of a race and interfere with other competitors. In Arachne’s case, however, her fault is -‘standing at the peg,” a policy that is detrimental to herself and her party, but there is no suggestion that she hinders her opponents bv such action. The mare has, even after being “left a street” at times, raced well to get a small portion of the stake, while latterly she has gone off smartly to be in a dividend place at the finish.
