A COMPARISON

rpAKING a line through the per- *- formances of Carmel and Native Prince since Easter, the latter is set a stiff proposition in being asked to concede his former stable-mate 36yds in a two-mile race. On the second day of the Addington Easter meeting Native Prince (60) defeated Carmel (48). The ex-Epsom pacer then won the big race at Ashburton from 4.32. At the Forbury winter meeting Carmel (4.30) beat Native Prince (4.28) the first day, and two days later the latter, off 4.27, won from Sunshower (4j28), with Carmel (4.28) in third place. At the Canterbury Park King’s Birthday function, Carmel was unplaced off 4.28, Native Prince not being a starter. In the latest adjustment between the pair Carmel is on 4.29, while Native Prince is placed on 4.26. At these handicaps those knowing the capabilities of the pair would want to be on Carmel.
