FIRES ON CLIFF

CAUSED BY HOT ASHES Two fires on the cliff face at Narrow Neck, Devonport, have been attended to in the past week by the Devonport Brigade. The superintendent says that they were both caused through carelessness, as residents had been throwing hot ashes over the edge of the cliff. When the dry grass and bushes are well ablaze, considerable anxiety may be caused. A call was made at 12.10 pm. today to the cliff at the back of the property of Mr. Skinner. in Hamana Street, and the brigade quickly had the fire under control before any damage had been done.
