Good Games at Eden Park

PONSONBY PLAYS UNIVERSITY Grammar and Technical

TWO good games have been Park tomorrow afternoon University, following which C nical College Old Boys will t should be close and interestir Although defeated by Varsity last week the result was not a true indication of Grammar’s form, the University fifteen turning on its best display of tlie season and catching Old Boys napping. Tomorrow Grammar should provide Technical with the hardest proposition it has yet faced. If Varsity retains tlie form shown last week it should provide Ponsonby with a hard nut to crack. Ponsonby also had a day off last Saturday, just escaping defeat at tho hands of City, but against a better team and on tlie main ground a better display can be expected. On the No. 2 ground Training College will play Marist at 3 o’clock and College Rifles and City will meet on No. 3 ground at the same time. The scoring should bo even in both these games. JUNIOR NOTES On form, Ponsonby and Grammar Colts are the two strongest teams in the junior grade B section, and the probability is that they will fight out the section final between them. The All Whites added another victory to their already formidable list on Saturday. by defeating Training College by nine points to nil. The Grammar pack Is not heavy, but fast, and training lias produced a good degree of combinaL s .on and co-ordination with the backs An outstanding forward is Pollock, whose fine line-out and loose work makes him the pack leader. The last gear’s College forward, Loekington, is developing on good lines, and shows much promise for tire fixture. Scarborough, as rover, is showing out as of old as a vigorous attacking player, following up well and tackling solidly The clever halfback, Frankham, who is by far the best in the grade at the base of the scrum, is again at the top of his form, and is the general of the back division. A dangerous attacking back and sound on defence is the eentre-tlireequarter, Savoury, who left College last season. Hi.s performances have so impressed that he is to .be given a try-out on Saturday in the senior XV. The fullback, A. Singleton, is gradually getting back to form. A much improved team, Grafton upset calculations by snatching a onepoint margin win over the sound Marist XV. The Magpies have a particularly bright back division, in which Fennell, at centre, is playing particularly good football. He infuses plenty of dash into his work and is quick to pick openings which makes him a dangerous penetrative unit. The forwards are a solid lot, better in the loose than in the scrummaging, in which tliev do not make full use of their weight. City has a fairly good combination this season, but has had the misfortune to meet the strongest teams in the grade in the earlier matches. Papisch has shown good form in all matches. This year he is perhaps the outstanding forward of the pack Harding in the backs is also playing consistently good football.
