OVER £14,000 IN TAXATION

AUCKLAND WINTER MEETING Taxation paid to the Government by the Auckland Racing Club in connection with the winter meeting amounted to £14,170. It was made up as follows: Totalisator tax £4,614 Dividend duty £8,805 Stakes tax £ 697 Amusement tax £544 Total £14.170 WORKING THREE W. H. PATTERSON’S TEAM Since he made his headquarters at Ellerslie, W. H Patterson has been gathering together some horses for next season’s racing, and now he has three nice youngsters under his care, a two-year-old and a couple of yearlings. The oldest member is Sub-Editor, whose preparation during the summer was carried out by this same mentor. Subsequent to racing at Rotorua in February, the Surveyor colt was turned out, and he looks all the better for the rest, having grown and matured nicely in the- interim. Sub-Editor has all the speed generally shown by Surveyor’s stock and it may be only a question of a little time before he catches the judge’s eye. Arausio has an only representative at Ellerslie in the filly from Waterlea under Patterson’s control. She was purchased at the Trentham yearling sales by Mr. Norman Wade, who also races the speedy On Top. Although lacking a bit in size, the daughter of Arausio is an attractive youngster.

In the afternoons trainer Patterson works a Catmint yearling, who is held in the interests of Mr. F. Pearce, of Suva.

TWO MONTHS’ REST

EASY TIME FOR KAIRURI Owing to his having done plenty of racing since his debut on the turf less than 12 months ago, a two months’ reprieve has been granted the four-year-old Kairuri., This son of Surveyor made his introduction to racing in impressive style when he beat a High Weight field at Takapuna toward the end of last year. The dividend, too. being of large dimensions. He was a recruit to hurdling a few weeks ago and a second at his first appearance over hurdles is encouragement to keep him at the timber game.
