T.T. RACE SOON

COULTHARD TO RIDE SPEEDS WILL BE HIGHER Considerable interest in Auckland is centred around the T.T. races at the Isle of Man this year, as Len Coulthard, well known here as a cinder track and club rider is expected to pilot a Velocette in the junior race to be run on June 16. There is some doubt as to whether New Zealand’s official representative, Percy Coleman, will be allowed to take part, as the medical examination governing entrants is remarkably strict. If he does ride, he will be the first competitor with one eye to cover the course. Reports of trial runs can be expected within a few days, but this year will be later than usual, as a full fortnight will not be available tor practice. Rules governing the T.T. are strict. No woman may ride, nor can anyone under IS years of age take part. Every competitor must ride in leather clothing. According to experts, the course has never before been in such an excellent condition for high speed, section after section having been improved since the races last year, and given good weather, every record is expected to fall. Even if engines are not improved this year, the better road surface should lead to an increase in the senior lap record from 73.55 to about 76.5 m.p.h. The average speed of the winner will probably rise from 72.05 miles an hour to about two miles an hour faster. This suggests that the course has become a race track rather than a trying road course, and it will not be unexpected to find drastic alterations made shortly in the regulations governing the test.
