RATES INCREASED
MOUNT EDEN BOROUGH FURTHER CHARGE OF 3d A new rate of 4a in the pound, an increase of 3d. will be struck in the Mount Eden Borough. The report of a special meeting of the council recommending this levy as the lowest tn which the borough work could be carried on at present, was adopted at .< meeting of the council last evening. o The rate is subject to a discount of P er vent., making a net sum of 02d. The old rate of 3s lid was also subject to a discount of 21 per cent. After the estimates had been considered by the council they were r* - ferred to a special committee to see if any reduction in expenditure was possible. The committee reported that in various items reductions had been made on the estimates as originallv submitted. Giving notice of his intention : . move that the question should con' before the next meeting of the council for confirmation, the Mayor. Mr. E. 1:. Potter, said it must be considered that the revaluation of the borough was or. the triennial system, and that the valuations and rates would be reviewc*i next year. Reductions to the extent of about .€3OO had been made in the estimates by the committee.
