LIQUOR OR MEDICINE?
MOTORIST FINED £4O “GROSS PERJURY” SAYS S.M. Press Association WANGANUI, Today. Kerry Mokopaura, a Maori, was fined £25 for being in a state of intoxication in charge of a. motor-car involved in an accident at Maxwell on April 15; £ls for negligent driving and £5 for offensive language. The magistrate, Mr. J. H. Salmon, also cancelled his licence, which is not to be renewed for three years. He said that the accused, in stating he had no liquor that day, only medicine for his heart, was committing gross perjury. He instructed the police to make further investigations regarding the liquor alleged to have been taken that day and to proceed further if necessary.
