SHORE BUS ROUTE
OPPOSITION TO PROPOSED CHANGE RESIDENTS SIGN PETITION Because portion of the route taken by the Cheltenham buses consists of macadam in-stead of concrete road, tho Dcvonport Borough Council is Jndeavouring to bring about an alteration of the services. This move is being strongly opposed by’ a group of more than 100 interested residents, who have signed a petition for presentation to the No. 2 Licensing Authority', at its meeting tomorrow evening. The position at present, it that tlio Cheltenham buses, which tap also Vauxhall area, proceed via Cheltenham Road, Oxford Terrace. Rata Road, arid a stretch of Tainui Road. Of these thoroughfares, Cheltenham and Tainui Roads, which connect, aie laid down in concrete, but the deviation via Oxford Terrace is in macadam. It is understood that, after an inspection of the condition of th® macadam stretch, the Borough Engineer advised the counicl to move in the direction of having the bus company instructed to proceed along the full length of Tainui Road, thus travelling on concerte all the way. A large number of ratepayers and householders who enjoy the conveniences of the deviation consider this proposal an injustice. A petition presentation to the Licensing Amthoritv urges the retention of the present service. It has been signed by more than 100 persons.
