KINGSFORL) smith to takeoff SOON LONDON, Thursday. Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith is looking forward to his forthcoming attempt to accomplish an east-to-west transatlantic flight in the monoplane Southern Cross with light-hearted confidence.

The airman says he is out to break down the evil reputation of the venture which has cost many lives. He will leave Baldonnel, Ireland, in a day •r two for Curragh, County Kildare, from where he will start. “We have not the slightest doubt w:e shall reach New York,” said Kingsford Smith today. “I have the best crew in the world and the Southern Cross is in first-class condition. We shall follow the northern great circle route as far Cape Race, and that 1,900 miles should occupy 23 hours. “Prom Cape Race we shall strike toward Maine and skirt the coast to >*ew York. That will be a further distance of 1,200 miles. The entfre fiight should take 35 hours.”
