BURNED BY ACID

WORKMAN CLAIMS £2,000 The hearing of an employee’s claim for £2,000 damages against the Challenge Phosphate Company. Ltd., for injuries, heard in the Supreme Court yesterday, was adjourned until Monday. Mr. Justice Smith, meantime, is inspecting the scene of the accident. The victim of the accident, John Kinloch Simpson, was almost buried and terribly burned by a “den” of mixture of ground phosphate and sulphuric acid collapsing over him. He alleged that the accident was caused by the company’s negligence. The company denied that there had been any negligence on its part, and alternatively alleged that the accident was caused by contributory negligence by plaintiff.

Mr. Fleming appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. Northcroft represented the defendant firm.
