COST OF CABLES
REDUCED RATES FORECAST FROM ENGLAND POSSIBILITY OF WIRELESS Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Wed. Sir Basil Blackett, chairman of Imperial Communications, Ltd., will ad dress the Imperial Press Conference tomorrow. It is expected that he will make an important statement regarding the reduction of cable rates for both public and Press messages. The “Daily Mail” says these will be reduced to the same level as wireless rates. A message from Capetown says: Following Sir Basil Blackett's anticipation of a reduction in cable rates, it is announced that an Amalgamation of the South African beam and cable services is imminent. The cables wfill not be scrapped. It is pointed out that they are an insurance against jamming and atmospherics. It is anticipated that the cable rate from England will be reduced by sd.
