Moreland (Isle of Wight), Captain and Mrs. Cumberland (London). Among recent Auckland visitors to The Chateau Tongariro were Captain I and Mrs. Flynn, Miss E. A. Pudney, Mr. and Mrs. Browne, Mr. and Mrs. J. | C. Hardley, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Hardi ley, and Miss Lowden. W.C.T.U. PONSONBY BRANCH I The Ponsonby branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union gave a social afternoon recently at St. Stephen’s Hall, Jervois Road, to bid farewell to Mrs. Lee Cowie and the Misses Pyle, who are leaving Auckland shortly to take up their residence at Honolulu. Miss Read presided over a large gathering of members and friends and during the afternoon songs and elocutionary items were given by Mrs. Craig, Mrs. Kaspar, Mrs. Thrift and Miss Bissett. Miss Read presented Mrs. Lee Cowie with a beautiful gold. W.C.T.U. badge set with pearls, from the members of the Ponsonby branch. The Misses Pyle also received a small token of appreciation. Mrs. Lee Cowie gave a very impressive address and Dr. Mildred Staley, who was present, also spoke a few words. Afternoon tea, brought to a close a very pleasant afternoon.
