ACTIVITIES OF THE YEAR The social work of the Church of England in New Zealand carried out in various homes and institutions is dealt with in “Doing Likewise,” a pamphlet published recently. The pamphlet states that £51,784 is spent annually on institution work, toward which parents and friends of children in the homes contribute £12,800. The remainder has to be raised by voluntary gifts. The pamphlet appeals to the Church of England people in New Zealand to supply the necessary support for the social work of the church. Twenty-two homes for orphans accommodate 910 children, at an annual cost of £34,267, toward which parents and guardians addition, there are two rescue homes, the St. Anne’s Home in Christchurch, the City Mission in Auckland, and the St. Peter’s Mission in Wellington, the mission houise in Dunedin, the city evangelist in Christchurch, the Flying Angel Mission for Seamen, seven hostels for girls, St. George’s Hospital in Christchurch, the Order of the Good Shepherd, the Community : of the Sacred Name, and immigration committees in Auckland and Wellington, assisted by committees in Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Invercargill.
