"SHIP FROM SHANGHAI” COMING Do you know the “Mother Goose” rhymes ? Then “The Bishop Murder Case,” now at the Regent Theatre, will have specia? interest for you. Jeering notes written in “Mother Goose” rhyme form the most puzzling circumstance of the five murders committed by the bizarre and dangerous criminal, who leaves a black chess bishop by the side of each of his victims. “The Bishop Murder Case,” by S. S. Van Dine, presents the latest exploit of the famous scientific detective, Philo Vance. In this Metro - Goldwyn- May er picture, directed by Nick Grinde and David Burton, the popular star, Basil Rathbone, plays Vance, and other key roles are assumed by Leila Hyams, Alec B. Francis, Roland Young, Nellie Bly Baker, George Marion, Charles Quartermaine, Clarence Geldert, James Donlan, Sydney Bracey, Carroll Nye and Delmar Daves. Full supports are shown on the same programme. King Vidor, who has been called the ace director of the screen, inasmuch as whatever he touches during the filming of a production turns to boxoffice gold, directed Marion Davies in her new comedy, “Not So Dumb,” which is coming to the Regent Theatre on Friday. The new talking picture is based upon the London and Broadway stage hit, “Dulcy,” written by George S. Kaufman and Mare Connelly. Miss Davies is seen to advantage in demonstrating her rare comedy talents. As the beautiful-but-dumb fiancee of a young artificial jewellery merchant, she continually manages to mess up his business affairs by prying and meddling Her scene as hostess at bridge is perhaps the most uproarious Miss Davies ever enacted. King Vidor directed “Not So Dumb." Elliott Nugent plays opposite the star and the supporting cast includes Raymond Hackett, William Holden. Julia Faye. Sally Starr and George Davies. A second attraction will also r>e shown tomorrow in a talkie entitled “The Awful Truth.” Ina Claire and Henry Daniels are starred.
