MANUFACTURERS MEET

HALL OF INDUSTRIES STILL POPULAR WINTER SHOW PLANS Interest in the exhibition of Xew Zealand-made goods in the Mall of Industries continues undiminished, and highly complimentary references are still being made to the display by visitors, according to a report by the secretary, Mr. J. Findlay, to the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association yesterday afternoon. The president, Mr. George Finn, was congratulated upon the success of the display, and a vote of thanks was accorded him for the work he had performed. Auckland delegates selected to attend the New Zealand Manufacturers* Association Conference in ‘Wellington on July 2, are Messrs. G. Finn. W. D. Mills-Palmer and J. Findlay. Mr. G. Finn was nominated as president and Mr. J. T. Spears as vice-presi-dent of the Dominion body. A suggestion from the Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association that the Manufacturers’ Association should make special efforts to find employment for workless commercial travellers was formally “received.” Deciding the suggested amendments of the Shops and Offices’ Act was outside the scope of the association's acti vities, the committee declined to adopt a proposal from Mr. A. Menzies, president of the Carbonated Water Bottlers’ Association, that it should take up the question with the commission now inquiring into shop and offices’ hours. Mr. Menzies contended that reduced hours for shops generally would curtail operations of selling agents, whose business was done largely during evenings. Advice was received that a list of commercial diplomatic officers and consular officers was available at the Department of Industries and Commerce. WINTER EXHIBITION Special efforts are being made to secure as many working exhibits of machinery as possible for the* "Winter Show. It was stated that exhibitors would 'be considered in regard to space and concessions regarding cost. Talkies of the process of certain New Zealand manufactories, filmed by the New Zealand Government Publicity Department, have been obtained by Mr. AY. J. Bowden, of the Department of Industries and Commerce for presentation during the Winter Exhibition.

A committee of three appointed to revise the association’s rules, comprises Messrs. F. Ambler, V. M. Dearslv and J. A. C. Album
