PRESENTATION TO CHAIRMAN “The Philistines” held a most enjoyable opening night on Saturday, in the Amateur Operatic Society’s Hall, Grafton Road. The hall was prettily decorated with pastel-shaded streamers and shaded lights and large bowls of autumn leaves were arranged on the stage. Aliss Jean Alclndoe and her orchestra provided delightful music. An excellent programme had been aranged by the convener, Aliss Myrtle Burns, items being contributed by Airs. Price, songs: Aliss Ida Lockwood, violin solos: Aliss Audrey Perry, recitations; Aliss Phillips, songs; Air. Dan Flood, humour; Mr. F. Baker, songs; Mr. J. Finlayson, humorous impresDuring the evening Aliss Bettina Edwards and Air. Crawford Norris gave a demonstration of the quickstep. Air. C. Clarke, the chairman, who was recently married, was presented with a handsome barometer by the members. After supper dancing was indulged in till midnight. AMONG THOSE PRESENT Airs. C. Clarke was in a gown of rosebud pink georgette and silver. Aliss Myrtle Burns, convener, wore a frock of white silk lace over leaf-green Airs. AR-Lean had on a frock of vieux rose taffeta. Mrs. Hutchinson was in Chinese red lace. Airs. 11. Simson was wearing pale pink taffeta, with hem of lace. Airs. Bone was frocked in cameo-pink crepe de chine. Ali-.s. Price, moon-mist blue carreau. Mrs. Prentice chose a frock of pale pink and blue taffeta.. Mrs. Boak’s frock was of lettuceMrs. Ovenden had on a frock of floral taffeta. Airs. W. Good had chosen a frbek of pastel blue taffeta, banded with pale pink. Airs. Barker wore mauve taffeta. Airs. Bird, pretty frock of powder-blue Mrs. B. Gittos was gowned in sunsetpink ninon. Airs. E. Verran chose a frock of black and floral taffeta. Airs. King’s frock was of tobac brown silk lace. Airs. Dickinson chose a gown of pale pink lace. For her dance frock Airs. Gordon Jones chose floral taffeta. ATiss Doreen D’Authreau had on salmon pmk shot taffeta and tulle. LACQUER RED VELVET Aliss S. Davidson was wearing an ankle-length frock of lacquer red ring
Miss Lewis was frocked in unrelieved black ninon.
ATiss Joyce Logan wore cameo pink georgette and floral lame coat.
Miss Elsie Low’s frock was of black georgette. ATiss Audrey Perry was in a dainty daffodil period frock of taffeta and embroidered tulle. Miss Lockwood was gowned in ivory silk lace. Aliss Rae Hi tellings chose shell pink sequined georgette. Miss Phillips was in apple green satin and frilled net. Aliss Phyllis Lewins had on royal blue georgette over silver. Aliss Anita Webster’s frock was of gold lace. Aliss Noeline Werthy was frocked in Aliss Bettina Edwards wore a frock of cream silk lace relieved with a red shoulder spray. Aliss Doris Cleland had chosen a gown of black lace. Aliss Sutherland was frocked in anklelength black chiffon velvet. Aliss Kennedy had on a mauve taffeta gown. Aliss Worsfeld was wearing cream charmeu.se. Aliss Nicol was in a pretty frock of beige lace. Aliss Wallbank’s frock was of sedge green embossed georgette. Aliss Myra Monk wore a frock of palest pink georgette. Aliss Ruby Palmer chose a gown of flame taffeta. Aliss Phillips was in lime green georgette. Aliss Dalton’s pretty frock was of peach taffeta. . , , Miss Isemonger had on sunrise-pink corded taffeta. Aliss Kennedy chose a dance frock of delphinium blue georgette.
