HOARIRI’S SPEED
GALLOPS A BRILLIANT SIX FURLONGS FINAL TRY-OUTS AT ELLERSLIE The outstanding effort at Ellerslie this morning was a really brilliant sprint by the Members’ Handicap candidate Hoariri. The black horse was accompanied by Wild Country and Dayform in a spin over six furlongs on number three sras track, which was open for galloping. Hoariri gave his companions half a dozen lengths start, and lie had caught them before the first quarter had been traversed, and he then kept with them for the remainder of the journey, the maidens taking 1.21 for their six furlongs. Hoariri ran his first three furlongs in a lively 36 1-5, and he completed his six furlongs in 1.17 4-5,’ and was going very freely. From a purely time point of view it was a rattling performance. and with soft tracks likely rhis week lie will be quite at home; the muddier it is the better he will like it. Mendip Pleases Mendip pleased better than Sea town in an outing over six furlongs, the first two taking 25 1-5 and the three 3S 3-5, the full six being covered in 1 20, with Mendip having about a length and a-half to the good. He is expected to go a good race in the Cornwall Handicap tomorrow. Mister Gamp went once round at a sfeay pace, and then carried on for another circuit at a strong three-quar-ter pace. King's Jest was not asked to do much. He was sent six furlongs with Grattus, the last five taking 1.10 4-5. King’s Jest is in great order. Maori Boy covered a round in 2.3 4-5.
Omeo was worked on the sand, and displayed no traces of soreness. He will miss the big: Hurdles tomorrow but it is expected that he will take on the Great Northern Steeplechase on Thursday.
