FOR SYDNEY

WEBSTER AND BURGESS HORSES ON ULIMAROA Otaki trainer A. D. Webster leaves today from Wellington by the Ulimaroa for Sydney. He will take First Acre, Second Thought, Bayacre and Borsalene. First Acre has not raced for months, but has been working along steadily and will not take long to strike form. He did well on his last trip to the other side, and will find some easy races awaiting him again this winter as the class of middle-distance horse round about Sydney is poor. Second Thought won a hurdle race at the Wanganui meeting, and will be raced as a hurdler in the Commonwealth. Bayacre is a promising two-year-old, who has not raced since the beginning of the autumn. T. Webster, son of the trainer, also goes to Sydney, and he will do the riding when the weights suit. Another trainer on the way to Sydney is B. Burgess, of Masterton. He. too will catch the Ulimaroa at Wellington today. Burgess’s team consists of Atholspear, Spearmiss, Austerity, Werata, Ben Hur and Lady Gen. One of the most promising of these is Austerity, while Werata and Ben Hur have not yet reached the top of their form. Werata is one of the most useful of the Acre family, and should be a payable member of the team. Spearmiss has run very badly this season, but might find the trip improving her. Mr. W. G. Stead is sending five by the Ulimaroa, comprising I’m Alone, Whelk, a two-vear-old gelding by Leighton—Golden Shoe, a two-year-old gelding by Lord Quex —Pointed Screen and a two-year-old filly by Lord Quex —Diaphragm. The two-vear-olds have been in work for some time and should be w*ell forward by the time they are asked to race.
