CULTURED VIOLINIST GETS MEAGRE RESPONSE ACID TEST OF PUBLIC TASTE CHICAGO, Tuesday. Jacques Gordon, a famous violinist, hid behind the tatters and smoked glasses of a blind pauper on a street corner in Chicago, and with his cultured bow wheedled exactly £1 3s 3d out of his casual and unsuspecting audience. Mr. Gordon undertook his beggar’s role in order to decide a dispute as to whether the public appreciates music for itself or is attracted by the magnetism of society audiences and the fame of artists.
