COMMITTEES' DANCE
GATHERING AT BIRKDALE The combined committees -of the women's institute, public library, and of the public hall, held a successful dance at Birkdale on Wednesday evening-, the dance music being supplied by Mrs. Kelly’s Orchestra. Among tho.se present were: Mrs. G. F. Hopkins, cyclamen crepe de chine; Airs. G. F. Cooper, beige marocain, with georgette to tone; Airs. Jane, rose georgette; Airs. L. G. Culpan, primrose taffeta; Airs. J. C. Alexander, cyclamen georgette and lace: ATrs. S. Collins, russet satin; Miss R- Taylor, daffodil crepe de chine, with flared frills; Aliss AT. Sutcliffe, sea green georgette, with uneven hem; Aliss K. McFarland, red satin and gold lace; Miss R. Ingham, black taffeta and lace; Aliss H. Ingham, pink georgette; Aliss A. Collins, rose crepe de chine and silver lace; Miss AiJe.i, green satin; Aliss M. Massey, lilac satin and silver lace; ATiss AT. Laurie, figured satin beaute; Aliss AleGregor, pale pink georgette: Aliss E. ATcGregor, rose pink silk, with gold trimmings; ATiss Crombie, pink crepe de chine and silver; Aliss E. Johnson, blue velvet, relieved with gold; Aliss AT. Chetwynd, champagne georgette and lime satin; Aliss AT. Stokes, sky blue crepe de chine, with posy to tone: Aliss X. Stokes, scarlet crepe de chine; ATiss AT. Bishop, lemon crepe de chine; Miss Y. Aloody, daffodil georgette; Aliss G. Barrett. ivory embossed chenille georgette, with diamente buckle. W.C.T.U. EDEN BRANCH MEETS The monthly meeting of the Eden branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held in the Dominion Road Aletliodist Schoolroom on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Fenton presided. Sympathy was expressed with those members, including the president, Mrs. Hayr, who were absent owing to sickness. Major Gordon gave a very interesting and impressive address on the need for more parental control and religious home training. Afternoon tea and the Benediction brough the meeting to a close. DEVONPORT BRANCH The usual monthly meeting of the Devonport W.C.T.U. took place on Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. Lawson Alarsli gave an inspiring address on Peace. During the afternoon pianoforte duets were played by the Alisses Ruth Day and Valerie Wyatt.
