FIRST DAY AT ELLERSLIE HACK DIVISIONS * : The Great Northern meeting is to open at Ellerslie tomorrow week. There will be a full programme of eight races the first day, the only hack flat event on that occasion, the Jervois Handicap, having had to be divided in consequence of the number of acceptors exceeding the safety margin (30) I by half a dozen. I The totalisator will be opened on j each separate division, each division I being a separate race so far as the j totalisator and stake money are conI cerned. Two hundred pounds has | been added to the stakes, making the total £6OO, and the first three horses lin each division will receive respecj tively £250, £35 and £ls. WAIPA CLUB NEXT MONTH’S STEEPLECHASE FIXTURE With a view to arranging matters in connection with the forthcoming race meeting on June 28, a special meeting of the Waipa Racing Club executive was held on Friday. Mr. A. S. Wallace presided, and there were also present: Messrs. Js O’Sullivan, W. Alexander, J. T. Young, S. A. Empson, M. H. Tims, A. Bond, T. G. Martin, A. H. Storey and the secretary, Mr. JG. Wynyard. The following officials, who acted at the December race meeting, were appointed:—Judicial Committee, Messrs. F. Quin, A. S. Wallace, G. M. A. Aliier, TI. Weal and A. TI. Storey; starter, Mr. A. Vincent; handicapper, Mr. F. McManemin: judge, Mr. R. B. Lusk; timekeeper, Mr. F. H. Seccombe; clerk of scales, Mr. J. Pollard; hon. surgeons, Drs. F. C. Blundell, K. N. Hiskins and I. B. W. Roberton; hon. veterinary surgeon, Mr. S. Burton, M.R.V.S. Permission was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs, on the recommendation of the Racing Conference, for a steeplechase meeting to be held on June 28. It was decided to proceed with the erection of 24 stalls at the racecourse, tins cost not to exceed £2OO. Messrs. Wallace, O’Sullivan and A. H. Storey were appointed to arrange details. The secretary has applied to the Minister for a refund of the £250 on last December’s race meeting tax, as is customary with clubs handling less than £40,000 on the totalisator. Several members of the club sought j information as to whether they would | be called upon to pay admission j charges for the forthcoming special j race meeting. It was agreed that no extra charge be made to members. The secretary, however, was instructed not to issue tickets to unfinancial members.
