SALE OF WORK
GOVERNOR-GENERAL AND LADY BLEDISLOE OPEN NEW LYNN BAZAAR The new St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Hall at New Lynn was a very attractive and busy scene yesterday, when a sale of work was held in aid of the church funds. The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, who formally opened the bazaar, was accompanied by Lady Bledisloe. A troupe of Girl Guides formed a guard of honour outside the hall, and on arrival their Excellencies were received by the Rev. W. P. Rankin, minister of the church. Little Mary Gardner, daughter of the Mayoress. Airs. C. F. Gardner, presented Lady Bledisloe with a bouquet of pink and white roses and carnations. The stalls were attractively decorated with blue and yellow streamers, and ferns and tall flax plants were placed at either side of the stage. Afternoon tea was served in the hall, a corner having been partitioned off with a trellis-work, through which fern leaves were intertwined. The stalls were in charge of the following:—Produce, Airs. C. F. Gardner. Airs. R. O. Gardner, Airs. Parry and Airs. 'Williams; sweets, Airs. Cox, Mrs. Shove and senior Bible class girls; cakes, Airs. T. Davidson, Airs. W. P. Rankin, Airs. J. S. Ockleston and Airs. Young; work stall. Airs. D. Brown, Airs. H. Whyte and Airs. Cathie; jumble stall, Airs. Beale and senior A Bible class; afternoon tea, Airs. Wilding. Mrs. McMillan and Airs. Sheen; games and competitions, Air. Knowles and Air. Parry.
