City and Marist
TOMORROW’S LEAGUE CLASH Fine Game Expected TWO of the three undefeated teams in the Auckland Kugby League’s senior A grade competition—City and Marist—will meet tomorrow in the main game at Carlaw Park, when the fourth matches of the series will be played.

Marist has lost one ! match on protest, but on the playing field has yet to have its colours lowered. The match on No. 2 ground at headquarters will be between Newton and Ponsonby, and although the Ponies are below full strength, it is eXpcted that they will carry the day. JUNIOR GRADE NOTES COMMENTS ON PLAYERS In the third open grade competition on Saturday, Richmond defeated Avondale by three \>oints to nil. For Richmond Hansen at fullback played a safe game. The remainder of the backs worked well for the few opportunities they had. Edwards and Waklen (who was unlucky with a good shot at goal) were most prominent. The Richmond forwards, although beaten in the majority of the scrums, worked well in the open, with Taylor and Richards outstanding. The team taken all round promises to improve as the season progresses. The clash between Kingsland and Richmond in the third intermediate grade was played as a curtain-raiser at Carlaw Park on Saturday, and resulted in a win for Kingsland by three points to nil. The winner's fullback was the best back on the ground. The five-eighths. Tunnicliffe and Martin handled badly. Robinson at half played a fair game and Smith was the best of the four wings on the dav. Shaw scored the winning try for Kingsland. I The excessive kicking of McKinnon (half) sand Verrall (first five-eighth) who starved the remainder of the backs, was one of the factors responsible for the defeat of Richmond. The forwards all played good games with A. Swanberg and '(Vatts in the van. The Glen Lynn third grade team drew with Kingsland'on Saturday after a hard tussle. Lynn wag unfortunate not to win on the day as it had the better team. Montgomery on the wing, played one "out of the bag.” The other wing, Everett, makes a better forward than a back. Kock was the outstanding man on the field. Glen Bartram is a great half, but a little bit slow in throwing the ball out. Of the Lynn forwards, Shepherd made a good showing, as did . Dolan. “Jake” Matherson was the best of all, however. Of the Glen Lynn fourth grade side Power gave a fine back display, other players who did well being A.’ White Millins and Baldwin. Malham of the forwards is also a good plaver, but ho should let the captain do "all the talking. Valentine, at fullback for the Richmond fourth grade team, is verv safe and a great goal kicker. Miller and Brown on the wings, did not get manv opportunities. Porteous and Johns were fair and promise to go far Simmons, although only a sixth A grade player of last year, was the best back on the field for the dav. Other players who did well were Conway, Agnew, McCulloch, Rainbow, and* Fraei. 4 <= $ An overwhelming victory by 41 points to 0 came to Richmond’s sixth B grade A team on Saturday against Marist. For the winners Ashdowne was the outstanding: player, with Verrall a good second. Of the forwards Oxley pla> ed w ell and Davis put in some gooil work as last man down. The captain, Taylor, gives the impression that he would do much better with a little more effort. * • * The Glenn Lynn sixth grade B team is finding its fe ;t, and in another week or so will have a great little team in the field. On Saturday the outstanding i l’layers were Boyd. Bath and J. Bremj nan. In the schoolboys* division lliv | mond .defeated Otahuhu bv 3 5 poin'i I to 0. Otahuhu had the heavier par k. ! hut Richmond backs saw most of th«
ball, owing to the splendid hooking- of Turner. Graham, the Richmond half played a really great game. Mills ©a the wing scored four tries. Satte.--thwaite was always on the hall. Of • the Otahuhu players the fullback stood up to a hard day's work well. To date this season the Richmond sixth B grade s A team has scored - t total of 115 points, and had only three points registered against it. * Thes~ points were put on by the club’s H team in the same grade. The team has five or six of last year’s plavers playing again. Its last season’s record was also a fine one. Over 740 points were scored by the team, and ©nh* 1»> against it. Needless to say it -won all its 19 matches. Richmond. 11. defeated Mount Wellington. 0, in a second grade match at Mount Wellington on Saturday. The first half ended on even terms.** Richmond opened the second spell with renewed vigour, rapid in and out passing disorganising the opposition’s back line. From a scrum at the twenty-five the maroons secured the ball, Agnew setting bis backs in action for Estall to score far out. Pell missed with the kick. From the drop-out Fraser gathered in the leather, sending on to Dunn, for him to transfer to Pell, who raced round the opposition, giving the ball to Agnew, to score* under the posts. Stallworthy goaled. S —o. In the latter stages of the game play was mostly in midfield, and hard tackling kept both sides from scoring Cavanagh. who worked like a trojan throughout tlie game, secured the- ball from the loose, to transfer to Dunn who cut in nicely, and sent Stailworthy away to score in the corner. Stallworthy failed to add the extra points and tlie game ended with the final score Richmond 11, Mount Wellington AUSTRALIAN TOUR NOMINATIONS FOR MANAGER At a meeting of the New Zealand Rugby League Council last evening, the appointment of a manager for th** New Zealand League team to tour Australia this season was considered.
