STRAND
COLLEEN MOORE AT HER BEST Colleen Moore, the dainty little Irish actress continues to delight audiences at the Strand Theatre in her latest talkio film, “Footlights and Fools." Miss Moore, whose delightful personality and exceptional dramatic talent have often been demonstrated, is afforded a splendid opportunity in her characterisation, which calls upon her to speak with a French accent during part of the story, and includes comedy and drama in generous proportions. Opposite Miss Moore are two highly competent actors, Raymond Hackett and Frederic March, in roles of such equal importance that both may be said to be her leading men. Hackett, whose successes in “The Trial of Mary Dugan” and “Madame X” have carried him to the front rank of screen players within a few months, brings to his characterisation the experience of years on the stage. March won a large following by his excellent work in “The Dummy” and “The Wild Party," the first pictures in which he appeared after leaving the stage. A full programme of excellent short talkie subjects is also shown. BRITANNIA Whether American men or foreigners make the most romantic husbands is a question dealt with in an hilariously entertaining manner in “Hold Your Alan,” Universal dialogue farcecomedy now at the Britannia Theatre. Laura La Plante plays the stellar role. Walter Scott appearing as her leading man. Others who have important parts in the strong cast are Eugene Borden and Alildred Van Dorn. The picture, which is based on a story by Maxine Alton, was directed by Emmett Flynn, who created a sensation with his “Connecticut Yankee at' King Arthur’s Court” some years ago. Excellent supports are also to be shown.
