Obituary

THE REV. W. T. CURRIE The Rev. W. T. Currie, who died yes-terday at his late residence in P7psom Avenue, was born at Coleraine, County Antrim, in 1863. He spent some years in business and then studied for the ministry of the Irish Presbyterian Church*. His first charge was at Ballywatt. Later he decided to join his brother. Dr. F. W. Currie, who was in New Zealand. About 25 years ago Mr. Curry took up a charge at Kaitangata, Otago. Eight years afterward he accepted a call to Mangere and Otahuhu, where he remained until his retirement a year ago. He leaves -his wife and four children, the eldest of whom is Dr. J. S. Currie, oS Otahuhu.

MR. F. MACKENZIE

Mr. Francis Mackenzie, a well-known figure among provincial newspapermen, has died at Taumarere, Bay of Islands, at 61 years of age. Mr. Mackenzie was born in Victoria and came to New Zealand in 1874. His father established the Kawakawa “Northern Luminary” in 1879 and Mr. Mackenzie served his apprenticeship there as a printer. He spent two years in London and then returned to his first paper. Later he joined the Navy. On his return he lived at Kawakawa until his father bought the Helensville “Echo.” When his father died in 1919 Mr. Mackenzie conducted the paper until forced to retire on account of ill health.
