ELLERSLIE WORK GALLOPS AND JUMPING RAIN DEADENS GOING Weather conditions were favourable : for training at Ellerslie this morning, ' and the near approach of the Taumaru- 1 nui and Great Northern fixtures ensured a more interesting morning’s < work than previously. Rain has made all tracks a bit dead, and with the pegs well out on the course proper times were slow. The pre-breakfast training found only a few horses about, but they included the Cornwall Handicap candi- j dates, Corinak and The Lover, who > | were paired for seven furlongs in 1.35. j I The former did it best, and is continu- , { ing along very satisfactory in his pre- . paration. * Eager Rose has benefited by a short j respite, and she comes back to the j course a fit mare. She reeled off six | furlongs fairly comfortably in 1.21 1-5. Easy work was accomplished by several others before breakfast, but nothing in the nature of time expeditions was attempted. After Breakfast Later Iloariri gave Wild Country a start over half a mile, but he caught the filly at the end of a furlong, and they wound up together in 52-; —Wild Country’s time. I Roman Pearl and Land Measure were j in company over five furlongs, but the former easily accounted for Land Measure to record 1.5 3-5 —fairly good time. Roman Pearl has no near engagement, but Land Measure is due for a trip to Taumarunui for Saturday’s racing, where it is intended to start him in both of his engagements, j Currajong, on the outside of Brampton and Neil, always held his companions safe over five furlongs in 1.7, and had it been desired he could have done better. Tambourine was not bustled for five furlongs in 1.13 2-5, and Norval Tea was under restraint for a similar task

in 1.11 2-5. Good Boy disposed of the last four of five furlongs in 53 3-5, and did it nicely. A number of horses worked on number three grass, but they were composed mostly of jumpers working out atfer schooling. Others, however, were Harbour View and Mon Star, who ran the last six furlongs of a round in 1.21 3-5. Scaramouche and Gay Cockade finished with little between them at the end of five furlongs in 1.10 2-5. The Hurdlers Sir Archie (E. Stanway) proved much too good for Respirator (J. Mcßae), over four schooling hurdles, and gave a fine exhibition of clean, fast jumping. Respirator, however, is anchored on a soft track and he will do better on top of the ground. Marble Mount (J. Preston) completed two schooling hurdles very satisfactorily, and showed that during his ab- \ sence since last winter he still retains his ability. Mountain Guide (D. Craddock) and Kamehameha (J. Mcßae) were dispatched over eight hurdles, and but for dislodging a panel at the sixth fence, Mountain Guide made a fine showing. Kamehameha, too, jumped in safe style. A quartet to go in company was Carlaris (E. Stanway), Freyja (Choat), Twinkler (J. Mcßae) and the St. Amans gelding (D. Craddock). Carlaris gave an improved display and made play over four obstacles from Freyja, this pair then drawing out to allow Twinkler and the St. Amans gelding to go on and accomplish another four fences. However, their jumping requires polish. The Steeplechase Course Ircjrorter (J. Mcßae) negotiated the steeplechase fences on the fiat safely. Odin (H. Dulieu) and Quincoma (L). Craddock) were sent over the steeplechase course, but at the first fence on the top of the hill, Quincoma lost his rider, and Odin went on to wind up his essay nicely. DID NOT ACCEPT PRINCE OF ORANGE OUT Messrs. Blomfield and Company advise that Prince of Orange did not accept for Taumarunui engagements, his inclusion being made in error.
