TRUE FISH STORY

SHARK EMBALMED AND BROUGHT HOME ON BOARD MAUNGANUI People who return from abroad with tales of bi-g fish, including those that got away, are not of a rare species. Some take the wise precaution of having their catches photographed as an authentic record, but not so Mr. Fred Staig, who returned from Australia on the Maunganui this morning. He had his 14-foot shark embalmed and brought it with him. Mr. Staig’s shark is of the wellknown and greatly respected Tiger variety. Until Mr. Staig’s arrival it patronised the Coogee Beach and Mr. Staig’s assurance that it is a proper man-eater is verified by its ample and wicked-looking jaws. No, Mr. Staig does not intend it for the family drawing-room, nor has he brought it from Australia merely to show his friends. Mr. Staig, who is a well-known New Zealand showman, will turn the late frequenter of the Coogee Beach into more profitable use.
