BRIDE-TO-BE ENTERTAINED BY NURSES
EVENING AT AVONDALE A jolly little evening was .spent at the Nurses’ Home, Mental Hospital, on Thursday when a party and presentation was given by the staff to Nurse M. Ryan, who is shortly to be married. Matron Mayzs, ir. a few words, on behalf of the staff, presented the guest of honour with a silver epergne and hairbrush and wished her a happy future. Nurse Ryan thanked everyone for the very enjoyable evening and the beautiful gifts. The singing of "For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and “Auld Lang Syne” brought a pleasant evening to a close WAIKATO NOTES Miss Joan Mitchell, of Hamilton, is on a visit to Masterton and is the guest of Mrs. P. W. Martin. * # * Miss Skinner, of Wellington, is a visitor at the Hamilton Hotel. Mrs. W. Grace, of Hamilton, has returned to New Zealand from a visit to her daughter, Mrs. Laing-Meason, in Sydney. Miss Malloy has returned to Wanganui from a visit to Hamilton. Miss E. Baines, of Dannevirke, has been the guest of Mrs. Dale, Elstow, Te Aroha. Miss L. Magill has been elected to represent Te Aroha in the queen carnival being run in aid of funds for the Thames Valley A.P. and H. Association. * * * The Rev. and Mrs. Lea are leaving Rotorua for Te Puke, where Mr. Lea has been appointed vicar. * * * Mrs. S. C. Eggleston, of Hamilton, is spending a few days with her lister, Mrs. C. H. Tate, Te Kuiti. Mr. and Mrs. F. Osborne, of Newstead, celebrated their silver wedding on May 14 at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Webster, Hamilton. Mrs. G. H. Gilling, of Hamilton, has been visiting her sister. Mrs. E. E. Brown, Pukekura. Mrs. G. G. L. Taylor, of Cambridge, is in Wellington. * * * Miss M. Attwood, of Cambridge, has gone for a short holiday. Mrs. Matthews and her daughter, of Paeroa, are spending the holidays in Hamilton. FAREWELL PARTY An afternoon was held in the Parish I-lall, Tauranga, in honour of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Harris, who have left for a holiday trip to Australia. A short programme was arranged. Mrs. M. Munro, Miss Gifford, Miss Grice and the Rev. A. F. Hall contributed items. Mrs. E. Jordan presented Mrs. Harris with a handsome rug on behalf of those present, wishing both Mr. and Mrs. Harris a very happy holiday and safe return. Mrs. Harris thanked all those present for the beautiful gift. A delightful afternoon tea was served and brought to a close a very pleasant afternoon. GIFT AFTERNOON FOR BRIDE-TO-BE Mrs. Marychurch, Mrs. E. Hicks and the Misses S. and R. Shaw were hostesses at a gift afternoon given for Miss Hildah Thompson, of Matangj, at the residence of Mrs. H. Marychurch, Matangi. A very happy time was spent Avith music and competitions. Among those present Avere Mesdames Marychurch, Thompson, Hay, Hicks, J. Shaw, T. BRIDGE AFTERNOONS Miss Cox, of Hamilton Road, gave a bridge afternoon to a few friends to bid farewell to Miss B. Swayne, who leaves very soon for Australia. Miss Cox received her guests ing a brown satin . frock, and Miss Swayne Avore a navy crepe de chine dress and smart navy hat. Mrs. Sutherland was the winner of the prize for the highest score, and the consolation prize went to Mrs. Ray Wilson. Among those present were Mrs. Sutherland, Mrs. Ray Wilson, Mrs. D. Gorrie (Auckland), Mrs. F. SAvayne, Mrs. Couper, Mrs. G. H. Nicoll and Miss Swayne. Mrs. E. Hart, of Cambridge, A\‘as hostess at another delightful bridge afternoon given for Miss Swayne.
