PENTECOST
AFTER 1,900 YEARS CHURCH MARKS EVENT “The forthcoming Whit-Sunday, June 8, being the 1,900 th anniversary of Pentecost, Is a momentous event in church history, and throughout Christendom steps are being taken to mark the event. “Let us use it as a unique opportunity to demonstrate to the whole world that the Christian Church is united in its thanksgiving to God for that power which brought it into being, and that it depends upon that same power today to make its witness effective and to bring in that new heaven and new earth for which all hearts are hungering.” The foregoing is part of a circular to ministers throughout the cities and suburbs, issued by the Auckland Ministers’ Association. The communication continues: —"By God’s gracious dealing with us, right at this time when w& are so anxious for a spiritual blessing, from various quarters there comes the glad news that there is a breath of real revival in church life. Shall we not pray that all of our churches and people mas' press on to the full experience of Pentecost, and make Pentecost the normal state and not the abnormal. “With this end in view the executive prays for your hearty co-opera-tion in the holding of united meetings for the deepening of the spiritual life of our people. It is suggested that these meetings be held in the various suburban centres as well as in the City itself, during the week between Sunday, June 1, and Sunday, June S, and that they should conclude with a gieat united meeting in the Baptist Tabernacle on Friday evening, June 6. These meetings will be preceded by a day of prayer on Ascension Day, May 29 In the Beresford Street Church Hall, and by a ministers’ communion service in the Pitt Street Church on Monday morning, June 2.
